Procrastinating Lover

Author: Steven Robles

Jell-O fills my wobbly knees I am frozen where I stand,
Stomach filled with butterflies, and shaking sweaty hands
As I brace myself to put in words the love I’ve felt so long
And hope she returns these feelings that ache and burn so strong

Intimacy is not my suit, it scares and frightens me
Am I more afraid of a “yes”? that says eternity
And so I sway to and fro unable to breathe a word
Or speak so very softly, not a blessed sound is heard.

A thought occurs perhaps it‘s best left for another day
When there’s not so many obstacles standing in my way
So quietly I turn around and deftly disappear
Determined to make my loves confession perhaps another year!

Sometimes it is really hard to make a confession of love ... this poem describes the struggle that comes from a fear of intimacy.
